Keeping a diary of sorts hasn’t completely gone out of style. It’s a way to put on a piece of paper your dreams and wishes, your daily activities, your ups and downs. Nowadays, however, actually writing things down in a notebook may not be the best solution, especially if, for instance, there’s something you want to jot down while on the go, such as a brilliant idea.

Diaro is an app that was created to help you keep a diary, put together a journal or just scribble down notes. This tool makes use of the fact that we always have our phones handy and helps us not only write everything, but also remember to do so by setting up an alert, for instance.

Clean and crisp

The app is pretty simple and straightforward. As you launch it, you’ll notice there’s already an entry there, one that will teach you the first few things you need to know about the app and how to use. This means that you’ll get instructions on how to use the app, how to customize it, how to protect and sync your data, making everything safer.

The side menu, which you’ll notice thanks to the ever-present hamburger button, allows you to perform quick searches through your collection. You can sort them by data, look into a certain folder, look for a specific tag or location.

In order to create a new entry, you simply have to tap on the plus sign at the top of the page. There, you’ll be able to fill in a headline and to enter as much text as you want. Then, you can put the entry in a certain folder (business, entertainment, friends, love, vacations), fill in a few tags and add your current location. The app comes with a counter, allowing you to see how many characters you’ve written and how many words.

Additional features are available too. You can set the date and time of the entry, add a photograph that’s already in your Camera Roll or shoot another one. Entries can also be deleted in this manner or shared with the world.

Check the settings

The app’s settings area allows you to sign in for an account or upgrade to the PRO version of the tool. You may also fiddle with the app’s preferences, which includes setting up a security code, changing the language and the interface color, as well as adjusting the font size and deciding whether you want to show your profile photo in the side menu.

The data in the app can be synced to your Dropbox account once you’ve got these two linked. Thankfully, however, connecting the two accounts is not mandatory, so those who fear about their privacy can relax.
