Microsoft Word 1.7
That being said, the Microsoft Word iOS app feels and acts just like you’d expect it to – great. If you’re familiar with the desktop tools, then you’ll certainly have no issues getting around the mobile app too.
Wrapped up nicely
That’s because the app has been thought out to squeeze together most of the features available in the desktop text editor, but still make it user-friendly. That’s mostly because while on desktop you’d find the ribbon full of options at the top of the page, here it was pushed to the bottom area, allowing you to just enjoy the document in the rest of the screen.
You can, for instance, change the font type and size, stylize the text by adding bold, italic, underline or strikethrough, highlight areas of the text with color or change the color of the text itself, add bullets and numbered list, and more.
It’s also possible to insert tables, pictures, headers and footers, adjust the layout by modifying the text directions and setting down the margins and page orientation, or to review any changes made to the document.
Go full screen
By default, when opening a text document, you get a windowed view where, in the upper area of the screen, you’ll get access to a few more buttons, such as one for searching within the document, one to bring up the editing features and one to share the file. There is also an extra button that will make the entire upper ribbon disappear and the document to go full screen, which is useful especially for smaller versions of iPhone since this will obviously not be a problem for iPad users.
The app allows users to turn on the auto-save feature, as well as to print and duplicate documents. You can even hook up some of your cloud storage accounts and pull documents straight from there.
Microsoft Office for iOS works great and delivers the powers that we’re all used to from the desktop version of the app. The only thing that drags the app down is that if you don’t set up a Microsoft account you can only read documents. Editing files is a possibility only once you’ve signed in.
