FanFiction 3.6.6
Many books in recent history have ended up shelves after they started out as fanfiction, including the “50 Shades” series, which we're sorry to name, but it was bound to happen due to its notoriety.
There are plenty of sites dedicated to this passion, but perhaps the most famous of them all is fanfiction.net. Some folks have created apps to compliment the site, including one for iOS. Dubbed “Fanfiction,” the app makes archiving fan-favorite stories easy, which means that it scours the aforementioned site and collect the data there.
Read new stories
You can view new stories that were posted to the site, browse for stories and search for titles you know you enjoyed and want to read again. The “Just In” area of the app comes with a few filters, but they’re not nearly enough since there’s no way to eliminate mature content, for instance.
The “Browse” area provides some more filtering options after you’ve picked a fandom you want to look through, including by story rating, genre, language and character names.
Users can also access various Communities for their favorite fandoms, which are places where users submit various stories they’ve found that respect certain rules, such as particular character pairings and so on.
Charging to log in
What’s annoying with this app is that it doesn’t just have a “Pro” version available, but it’s also ad-supported, which means that it gets cash from two different areas. What’s more, you need the Pro account if you so much as want to log into your fanfiction.net account, a site that’s free to use by everyone.
Fanfiction is meant to be free of charge since it’s, for the most part, based on certain original stories. Even if some of the content in the stories is original to the author, it all still starts from a handful of characters, a predetermined situation, follows the plot from the books, and so on.
On top of this, the app itself works wonky at best. You have to tap back on the “Filter” button after you’ve picked an option, there were glitches while scrolling through the text, and the app is overall slow. Under these circumstances, people would be better off just visiting the site’s mobile version and be done with it.
