Kindle 4.7.5
The Kindle mobile app is no stranger around the Softpedia offices, for both Android and iOS users, while some of us even have the desktop client installed for those odd breaks when you just can’t let the book “down”.
Familiar tool
The iOS Kindle app is no different than what Amazon offers for all other platforms: it looks great, moves fast and offers you quick access to your collection, whether local or in the cloud.
The home screen of the app allows you to see all the books in your Cloud or on the Device. When you open up a new book, it automatically gets downloaded to the device. Also, your reading progress gets synced up to the cloud as soon as there’s an Internet connection, which means you can easily switch off between your Kindle device, phone, or desktop and still keep track of where you left off.
You can view your book collection in a grid or a list, the latter allowing you to also view your progress.
Reading with Kindle
The tool makes reading a complete pleasure, thanks to the crisp font. As always, you can make a few changes when you’re in the middle of the book, such as to change the screen brightness, increase or decrease the size of the font, change the font altogether (Baskerville, Caecilia, Georgia, Helvetica, Palatino, or the Publisher Font), fiddle with the row spacing or even change the page’s background color from white to black to sepia.
The side menu available when reading allows you to navigate the app easily, giving you quick access to the Library, to the search screen or within the e-book. For instance, you can go back to the Cover or the first pages, or even a specific location. If the e-book permits it, you can even travel through the table of contents, jumping from one chapter to another.
One cool feature that comes with Kindle is the “Next in Series” capabilities. This means that if you’ve finished reading book one from a certain series, the app will suggest the next books in the series so you can add them to your Wish List if you so desire.
Furthermore, as you download audiobooks, you can start listening to them without having to wait for the entire download since that can take some time. They can be played once you’ve downloaded past your current reading location.
The Kindle iOS app is quite awesome and it will come in handy especially if you’re an avid reader and want to leave your e-reader at home.
