7 Minute Workout 2.1

A tough workout instructor and assistant with multiple personalities
You need motivation to get a good workout going, whether it’s coming from your inner self, or a screaming voice telling you that you’re good for nothing. Actually, that’s a bit of a downer. You need a voice that tells you things like “you’re doing great!”, “keep it up!”, or “that was awesome!”

Designed for short, intense workouts

If you’re looking for that, then 7 Minute Workout is just the tool you need. Designed thoughtfully to guide you through an intense 7-minute workout with precise illustrations, visual timers, spoken instructions and even tactile feedback.

To use the app, all you need is your own body weight, a chair, and a wall. The 7-minute workouts built in this app are based on scientific studies to provide the maximum benefit of working out regularly in the shortest time possible. The free version comes with just one workout session that keeps repeating itself for a whopping three months, after which a new one is unlocked.

Requires IAPs

By the time you get to the 10th session you’ll probably be ripped, or a few dollars short if you prefer to just buy them outright. Same goes for acquiring other extras, like personal trainers (voices). The original voice included with the free app may or may not be to everyone’s liking, and frankly the remarks are not all that motivational. But at least it’s something.

By default, you get very little resting time, and the entire set of exercises in one session will cause people who aren’t in shape to hit pause or just abandon the workout altogether. However, you can alter your exercise and rest intervals. That said, the app really pushes you to get into shape. You can also track your progress visually on color-coded graphs and calendars.

Although it’s clearly been built by professionals, everything is too rationalized and put behind a paywall. It would be nice to get the option to at least one extra workout session, or set a different trainer as the voiceover.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7

Looks very decent and clean, but it wouldn’t hurt to see some animations on the display. Some people may not be fully aware of how a certain exercise goes.

Function8

7 Minute Workout is a very tough mission. This one pushes you to get a good workout going, unlike other tools that exist only to get you to make those in-app purchases

Security8

Has built-in sharing functions.

Battery7

Normal consumption levels for an app that needs to stay on for long periods of time.

Price6

7 Minute Workout requires a tad too many in-app purchases to get the full product.

Compatibility9

Requires iOS 6 and has an iPad-ready version too.
