Fitbit 2.7
Fitbit is one of the most appreciated health & fitness apps out there. It lets you tracking all-day activity, workouts and healthy eating, and even has a social side to help you get motivated.
Clean, lightweight UI
Fitbit has a very welcoming interface and uses the design of iOS 7 to display data in a clean and intuitive manner. It’s not entirely flat, and the few elements that use representations of real-world objects are pleasing to the eye. The color palette used in Fitbit is particularly appealing.
More than just a sidekick
The app is best used with various add-ons, such as the Aria smart scale, or the Zip wireless activity tracker. But you can try out its most basic features without any additional gear. Once you install it on your iPhone you need to create an account and tell the app a little bit about yourself (height, weight, etc.). It’s a shame you’re forced to create an account to use it, but that’s that.
The dashboard is where you get a bird’s eye view of your burned calories, exercises tracked via GPS, your weight, calorie intake, food plan, water intake, etc. You have to punch in some data yourself, but the exercise tracker can do this for you if you have the right equipment. For example, the iPhone 5s has a built in (M7) chip that tracks your running.
Fitbit helps you stay motivated with a Friends feature, audio guidance and music, as well as goals.
The Fitbit Challenges are a cool way to keep yourself motivated while using the app since they’ll get you to compete with friends and family members in the Daily Showdown, the Workweek Hustle and the Weekend Warrior.
US users can also take advantage of the food logging feature that comes with Fitbit, which enables people to scan barcodes or to request items be added to the database when they’re not already available.
The app comes with native support for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus displays, which should make Fitbit that much more pleasant for all users

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
Very relaxed design with a focus on displaying data in the most appealing way possible. No complicated charts or graphs, just easy to read and easy to edit throughout. |
Function8
Fitbit is usable even without add-ons. While you generally have to input data with your own hands, the GPS-fueled activity tracker is a very handy tool. You can enlist friends to help you reach your goals by sharing stats, joining fitness challenges, messaging, and competing on leaderboards. |
Security7
Fitbit requires an account before anything else, which is a bit of a turn off. Some of your data, including profile picture, gets uploaded to the Fitbit servers. It uses location services and wants access to your contacts. |
Battery7
Various functions require lots of power from your iPhone’s battery, such as GPS. |
Price9
The mandatory account creation doesn’t let us give it max score here. |
Compatibility8
Requires iOS 7.0 and only supports iPhone and iPod touch (no iPad). |
