VSCO Cam 4.1
VSCO Cam, even though it has a name that’s impossible to pronounce, is a pretty great tool if you want to give a go at both aforementioned activities.
Clean interface
The app has a really clean interface, crisp and easy to navigate. There aren’t that many written instructions on what each button does, but that’s what makes this app beautiful. There are only icons that you’ll have to fiddle around with until you learn what each one of them does. Thankfully, if you’ve used photo editing apps before, you’ll already know what button does what since VSCO isn’t reinventing the wheel here.
In order to edit the pictures, you’ll have to import some from your camera roll. Whether you choose to add the entire collection to the mix or just a few of them is, ultimately, your own choice. You can then select any of the pictures and dive into the editing part. There are plenty of filters to choose from and each one can be adjusted afterwards with the help of a sliding bar, while more can be purchased at any time from the app’s shop.
More adjustments
Then, you can move on and fiddle with the finer details. You can adjust the exposure, contrast, saturation, shadow, temperature, and tint, sharpen or crop the picture, add a vignette, grain texture or fade effect. You may even add a shadow and highlight tint if you so desire, to make the entire picture look even better.
Once you’re done, you can revisit any changes you’ve made to the picture and cancel some of them. Alternatively, you can also adjust the levels instead of deleting the entire effect.
VSCO Cam (the name still hasn’t grown on me) also allows users to take pictures after making some adjustments straight from the camera interface. You can, for instance, turn on and off the flash, add a grid to the screen, turn on the white balance and so on. There’s also a way to adjust the manual focus, and the shutter speed, which makes for some pretty great results.
All in all, this is a nice app that offers some great features both for before taking the picture and for editing it.
