Adobe Color CC 2.1.2
Handsome UI
Cleverly designed to capture color from objects as seen through the iPhone’s camera, Color CC explains itself through a visual guide of the app, then starts to unfold its various features in a progressive manner. The main section is where you point and shoot to capture color, and the various sub menus are intuitive and just a pleasure to use.
More features than you could ask for
Color CC is used by simply pointing the iPhone’s camera at something colorful, and the app will instantly extract a series of colors. Move the camera about and the color pickers change accordingly. There are various themes you can choose from, telling Color CC to look for colors in that particular range (bright, muted, deep, dark, etc), and you also get a free-form picker which lets you drag the bubbles on canvas with your hands and choose what you want.
After snapping the photo you get a plurality of knobs, tweaks and presets, color wheels, sliders, etc. Basically there isn’t a single color that Color CC will not see.
You can set a base color to quickly identify other colors that will work well with together, • edit your colors using RGB color sliders, and then save, sync and share your color themes to integrate them with your existing projects. Colors from Color CC can be used with other Adobe applications, such as Illustrator.
While in the past it wasn’t necessary to have an Adobe ID to use this app, following an update from a few months back, this is a requirement, so you should keep this in mind when using the tool. All the color themes can be saved to the Creative Cloud Libraries, one of the perks that come with needing an Adobe account.
The design has been pimped up too, to fit with the new name that it got back in October, when Adobe Kuler turned into Adobe Color CC.
Color CC does everything Adobe says it does, plus things that aren’t even in the description. Everything works as expected (or even exceeds expectations) and even non-photographers can use it to learn about colors that go great together.
