Autodesk SketchBook 3.1.2

Drawing on your phone or tablet is a great way to practice your passion on the go
If you like drawing, then you’re likely to take advantage of every surface at your disposal to make use of your talent. Newspapers, magazines, notebooks and more are fair game, so why wouldn’t your phone be on the same list?

Autodesk SketchBook is an app that can help you with this passion of yours straight from your mobile device.

Extra tools

The app doesn’t just give you a pencil line to draw with, but goes a step further and gives you some professional-grade tools. If you log into an account you’ll have access to a lot more features than you do without taking this step, so you should take this aspect into consideration.

For instance, you can use one of the eight pens, pencils and brushes, as well as two different erasers when it’s time to fix one issue or another. You also have access to a full panel of colors from the RGB mode, or you can switch to the HSB one to pick the values yourself. Alternatively, you can use the visual indicators to better pick the right shade or to check out various swatches of color.

There are also some additional features, such as the symmetry tools which will help you mirror paint, or the geometric styles. It’s further possible to import images and to add text if you so desire.

Layer control

What’s more, there is one extra feature that is possibly quite familiar to Photoshop users, for instance, which is layer handling. You can add multiple layers and play with them. There are several options available, including copying, cutting and pasting them, while duplicating is also possible. Merging multiple layers is possible too, as well as opacity adjustment. Furthermore, there are plenty of blending options if you want to take things a step further.

The Pro tools which can be purchased for a few bucks give users even more features to play with, including more brushes, layer control and so on.

All in all, this is a pretty great app to have around. There are plenty of gestures you can set up to control the app more easily, including to undo various steps, to clear layers, to access the color wheel and so on. It’s even possible to connect a pen for more control over what you’re drawing.

Do excuse the quality of my drawings, I have absolutely no talent in this area.
