Study Cal - Student Planner and Organizer 3.1

If you’re looking for a quick way to manage your classes, organize your assignments, and track your grades without having to carry around an agenda, it might be a good idea to download Study Cal on your iPhone or iPad (provided that you have an iPhone or and iPad, of course).

Track your classes, labs and exams by semester

Study Cal is like a business organizer custom tailored to fit the needs of a student. You add semesters, classes, instructors, notes, and grades, complete with nice graphs and visual instructions until you get the hang of it. Everything gets calculated for you automatically. You’ll be told what grade you need to achieve the next letter grade in the class, or at least maintain your current one.

Nice at first glance, hard to get used to

For all the instructions that Study Cal has to offer, it takes quite a while to learn the navigation steps. The full screen weekly and daily calendar is a nice touch, and there’s no setup process for the app itself, so that’s a relief.

However, moving through the app is a pain. You don’t need an extra “assignment,” in the way of jotting down your assignments. Plus, we’ve discovered that deleting an assignment has no undo. How stupid is that?

iCloud and notifications

Your Study Cal data is automatically synced with your iCloud account, and you can tell the app to deliver digest notifications in the morning and in the evening. The morning notification is concise and tells you the day you’re going to have. In the evening, you get information about the next day’s events. You can configure these to stop popping up on your screen in the weekends, or whatever days you don’t want them invading your display.
