The biggest furniture brand in the entire world is by far IKEA, with over 350 stores in 46 countries from around the world. The Swedish brand has gained more and more fame since it was launched in 1943, especially thanks to the ease with which its products can be put together by the buyers themselves.While this particular issue is debatable and depends on each of the individuals’ handiness, IKEA has marketed itself as a cheap solution in a market full of expensive alternatives.

The IKEA catalogue is something that everyone in the cities around the shops receives on their doorstep when it comes out once a year. For the past few years, the company has also been working heavily on creating an innovative virtual catalogue, one that’s even available on people’s phones.

Set the details

The IKEA Catalogue app is easy to use and allows users to choose their country of origin and the language they want to check the data in. Most often than not, however, it’s going to be the country’s native language.

What users need to do next is download the catalogue they want to check out, for which is best to have a WiFi connection available or an unlimited data plan. As you swipe from page to page, you’ll notice a button at the bottom of the page allowing you to check out the products presented in the image.

You can tap on it to see more info about it, including the price, article code and a description. There’s also the possibility to check out more details, which include more pictures, the product’s availability and location, as well as the information and assembly instructions where they apply. It should be mentioned, however, that this basically opens the web page, where you can also build a shopping list or create a shopping basket.

Augmented reality

Some of the coolest features of the app, however, aren’t the ones allowing you to check the catalogue, although that’s pretty handy in itself. The fact that you can virtually arrange furniture around the house is pretty great.

This feature requires that you allow the app access to your camera. What you’ll need to do is pick one of the types of furniture available in the app, choose one of the available options and point the camera to the place where you’d like to place the furniture. Then, with a few gestures that the app will walk you through, you can rotate the item, scale it and place it in the right position. This way, you’ll know if it’s the right furniture piece for you.

All in all, this is a great tool and you’ll certainly find it useful, especially as you plan a trip to the nearest IKEA store.
