Wallpapers for iOS 7 3.1
As the screen size expanded, so did the space on the screen, allowing for another row of apps. But that still didn’t do much for the wallpaper, which remained hidden behind these massive squares with rounded corners. In iOS 8, wallpapers could also move.
Made for iOS7
Designed specifically for the newer firmware version, Wallpapers for iOS 8 by Apalon Apps (in collaboration with Pimp Your Screen) delivers a massive library of amazing images tailored specifically for iDevice screens, including iPads too.
Awesome imagery aside, the interface itself is well thought out, but it’s also a bit tricky. It has been designed in such a way that you’ll sometimes tap on something and get taken to the app store.
Pixel perfect
The purpose of the app is fairly simple and straightforward: select a category of images, browse through the wallpapers and themes and save them to your iDevice. A preview with app icons overlapping the wallpapers helps you make the best choice.
You get categories like minimal, abstract, cartoon, Sci-Fi, sports, nature, cities, 3D, holidays, and more. Endless notifications and ads pop up as you browse through the images, making for a pretty annoying experience. If all you wanted was a wallpaper app, just save your favorites and say no to all the nags. Be fair and rate / review the app if you feel like it.
The tool has been optimized and designed with iOS 8 in mind, which means it can only look great. The app is now ready for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, providing wallpapers and themes that have been properly adjusted to fit the new screen sizes.
The iPad version takes full advantage of the increased screen real estate, displaying a two-pane UI with the categories of wallpapers on the left and the flip-through image browser on the right.
Despite its shortcomings, the app does deliver on its promise to fill your device with superb imagery.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
Well assembled and packed to the brim with wonderful imagery. The experience is hindered by the endless nag screens and various ads. |
Function7
Does its job to put fancy imagery on your iPhone and iPad, but you need to slalom through the tricky screens that take you to other apps in iTunes. |
Security9
Nothing of concern was found aside from the targeted ads. |
Battery7
Exhibits a little power drainage. |
Price7
There are no advertised in-app purchases but it constantly nags the user to “upgrade to the full version.” Factor in the ad banner at the bottom of the screen and the tricky wallpapers with App Store links behind them and you have quite a few compromises on your hands. |
Compatibility9
Although it’s tailored for iOS 8, Apalon keeps its Wallpapers app optimized for iOS 6 and above. This is a thoughtful gesture, both towards the user and towards their business. |
The app offers a pretty decent wallpaper collection
