Ultra Utilities! + QR Scanner 6.2
Sublime visuals and effects
Not only it doesn’t suck, but it’s drop-dead gorgeous. It’s got a dark, matte background with seams everywhere and a bunch of flashing neons that make it look like something out of Tron. The brushed metallic looking button in the middle is also a dial. You twist it around to select your utilities and tap the middle to open that utility.
Even the menu is breathtaking. The shadows give it depth, while the color palette is very pleasant as well.
Tools
The built-in tools include a flashlight with built-in morse code, a couple of level tools, a QR code scanner and generator, a tip calculator, and a pair of utilities that can only be opened via in-app purchase. Those are Secret Folder and Alarm Clock. Granted, these two are apps in and of themselves, so it’s somewhat justified.
The QR code scanner works surprisingly well, and the code generator is also pretty awesome. The surface level tool has a periscope feel to it.
In-app purchases
One thing we can’t say we love about Ultra Utilities is the one-too-many in-app purchases. We get that the Secret Folder thing is worth $0.99 / €0.89, and we can even accept this fee for an additional Alarm Clock utility that, from the screenshots, looks superb. But to ask for a third in-app purchase to get a green theme is a tad too much.

Bottom Line
Design / UI10
For a utility app, this is hands down the best looking one we’ve come across. |
Function9
Multi-utility apps usually suck, but this one nails every one on the head. Too bad for those two paid ones, though. |
Security9
The QR code tool should come with a warning that the message will become public if someone scans the code. Not everyone knows how these things work. |
Battery7
Kills it if you play with the flashlight for too long, but otherwise normal consumption. |
Price7
We like the free nature of the app even with limitations, but the green-theme IAP is ridiculous to say the least. |
Compatibility7
iOS 7 and no iPad version. |
We feel bad for being so harsh with such an awesome app, but IAPs that don't have to be there always bring down the score
