EasyMeasure 12.6
Calibration guide
EasyMeasure starts with a cool tutorial about the app’s ability to measure things through the iPhone’s camera, then goes to the calibration section, and finally opens its main UI featuring a real-time measurer.
The tabs at the top offer various measuring options and other useful features, while much of the bottom side is dedicated to in-app purchases and ads.
It’s got a pretty sleek interface that matches the iOS design direction while also retaining some originality. But it’s crowded with icons and knobs.
Measure with your camera
To get one thing straight right off the bat, EasyMeasure doesn’t seem to be very accurate. Whether or not we had anything to do with the end results it gave us, our measurements seemed quite off. The calibration process is no picnic either, though Caramba App Development does its best to guide users every step of the way with nice visuals and comprehensive instructions.
However, that’s not to say it’s completely inaccurate. Some of our tests concluded with very precise measurements, meaning it’s easy to tilt your phone the wrong way and get a completely biased estimate. So follow those instructions carefully and maybe you’ll have better luck than we did.
You can use the entire app (along with its in-app purchasable features) to find out how far it is towards a far away object, such as a boat on a lake, or a big truck parked several hundred feet down the road, as well as measure how tall buildings are, measure your friends height, etc. To measure a person’s height, for example, you need a really steady hand (we suggest resting the phone on a stable surface). The developer also suggests to use the app as a golf-aid.
EasyMeasure uses the height of the camera lens and its tilt angle to calculate, or triangulate, the distance to an object. It uses a similar technique to measure the height and volume of some objects, but that’s a paid feature (like many others as well).
To its credit, Caramba App Development admits that “Measurements taken with EasyMeasure are not as accurate as measurements taken with standard tools. Do not use EasyMeasure for construction or other uses where inaccurate measurements could cause personal injury or property damage,” the developer says.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
Nice, comprehensive UI with great visual guides and tutorials to get the user started. Very usable and easy to understand. |
Function8
Measures distance from you to objects afar or close by, and does so with some degree of accuracy. Let’s put it this way. If you can’t distinguish between 50 meters and 100, this tool will surely help. In some instances, it can be be very accurate (inches in marginal error). |
Security8
EasyMeasure for some reason wants to use your location (probably to geotag photos you take). |
Battery8
Normal consumption levels. |
Price7
Much of the advertised functions are paid. For example, in the paid version a Dynamic Photo is stored in the in-app Photo Album. It has multiple in-app purchases as well as ads. Not a very pleasant “free” app. |
Compatibility9
Works with all iDevices natively and requires only iOS 6.0. |
Despite various shortcomings, we recommend it
