Multi-utility apps are always cool. You never know what extras you’re going to get. While some have dozens of unit converters, others offer a surface level, or a caliper, or a plumb bob. Well, we’ve finally stumbled across one that has them all, plus one we really didn’t expect.

7 tools in one sleek UI

Pocket Tools may not be optimized for new-generation hardware but it still looks pretty darn cool. It’s a shame that an app with such fine graphics doesn’t support an iPhone 5 screen (it still only supports 3.4-inch screens natively). That said, it’s not flawless. Some elements are still stuck in the past, such as various sliders and the built-in keyboard. But overall, the visual experience is pleasant.

The included tools are: flashlight, plumb bob (with camera functionality) for checking if something is fully vertical or not, bubble surface level, ruler, caliper, unit converter, and protractor. The protractor is really kind of pointless because it’s hard to manipulate it accurately without a camera view. Which is a bit ironical, considering that the plumb bob does have camera view. On the other hand, if you place the phone onto a piece of paper or any kind of surface with the camera facing downwards, it the image will go dark.

Calibration, hold function

The tool selector can be hidden with a two-finger swipe, or you can have it disappear on its own at a pre-determined interval. The calibration for level and plumb bob is superficial, so don’t rely on those tools too much. A hold function allows you to keep a measurement in place as you move the phone. The convertor tool includes almost 100 conversions, including angle, area, data, energy, force, length, mass, power, speed, and many others.
