Frequency ~ Watch Videos like TV 2.3.61
Almost just as good as live TV
Although Frequency isn’t a live TV app, that doesn’t make it any less useful. In fact, considering how much junk there is on television at any time, we could actually use a tool that filters out the content that acts as a filler.
Frequency aggregates news, comedy, entertainment, food, fashion, health, movies, music, politics, sports, technology and more, and puts it on your iDevice in a familiar fashion - like apps. Its design is simple and straightforward, and the setup process is painless.
Watch your friends’ shares
Video content that ends up on Facebook on any of your friends’ timelines, as well as on Twitter and YouTube, trickles inside Frequency and it’s ready for you to watch at any time.
These videos can be anything from video game trailers to wasps building a nest on someone’s window. And of course, the never-ending pranks.
No setup, just tap and watch
One thing I do have to say is pretty awesome about Frequency is the fact that you can set it up in a matter of seconds and just start watching. There are virtually no settings to tweak in order to use the app, but you can access a few preferences and tweak things like auto-play, video quality, and such.
In fact, the settings menu is so well hidden you’ll have trouble finding it. Which may not be such a good thing in the end, but I for one don’t watch that much video on my iPhone to mind at all.
Sharing and watch later
Anything you can watch in Frequency is instantly shareable, so you don’t need to log into your social network and do the sharing there. There’s also a history tab, and there’s a Watch Later module which, unfortunately, doesn’t stand for offline viewing. That’s right, you need a constant internet connection for this one.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
Well designed and well thought out as a VOD app. However, navigation between the menus isn’t always easy. |
Function8
No setup, you just log in with whatever credentials you have at hand and start watching. Assembling a list of channels is just as easy. No live TV, though. |
Security8
Requires you to log in with an existing social account, or create one on the spot. It will draw some information from your Facebook profile, but it doesn’t look to worrisome. |
Battery7
You can expect some degree of drainage if you watch videos one after another. |
Price10
We didn’t see any ads or in-app purchases in this one. |
Compatibility9
Requires only iOS 6.0 and supports all iDevices natively. |
Not as good as live television, but it’s more than you can ask for in exchange for $0.
