BitTorrent Sync 2.0.25
Breaking all barriers, BitTorrent sync enables instant file sharing between any computer and any mobile device (that supports the app) through the power of QR code scanning, or “secrets.”
Simple (iOS-inspired) layout
BitTorrent Sync is an extremely simple app. Designed as a barebones file manager, the tool displays one or more synced folders between your mobile device and your computer. Most of the UI is guides and settings, while only a fraction of its design is focused on actual file representation and management features / menus. Its flat UI is well within the boundaries of Apple’s design direction. The iPad UI could use a little more work, though.
BitTorrent Sync has a pretty simple interface that allows you to easily share folders with other people, without even using the cloud, but rather with the help of HTTPS links, emails, or QR codes, for those of you who are a tad more mysterious.
The fairly cool notifications icon allows you to know when you have any pending access requests so you can approve them accordingly. Tapping a synced doc allows you to preview it in Quick Look, thanks to a recent update.
Drag and drop, rapid sync, passcode lock
It’s not hard to set up BitTorrent Sync, but it’s not very easy either, depending on where you come from and how familiar you are with certain authentication concepts.
You can choose to link the app to your computer via QR code scanning (which is explained in the app), or via a “secret” code, which is also explained in the app but not very well, in our opinion.
But once you’re up an running, everything becomes a breeze. Simply drag any file in your synced folder on your computer, and it will instantly appear on your iDevice. You can do the same on the mobile end. Any change you make on iOS will be reflected on the computer (Mac, PC, even Linux).
You can tweak a bunch of settings, set a passcode lock on the thing for extra security, use the app as a backup solution, and more. The iPad version is nearly identical, but it does take advantage of the bigger screen. The app’s security is pretty tightly wrapped, with various approval processes required.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
Very good choice in file, folder and action representations. Simple barebones design that allows the user to focus on the content, not on the settings. Intuitive visual set-up guide (at least as far as the QR method is concerned). |
Function9
Brilliant tool for sharing files between platforms quickly and securely, without ever having to rely on servers. |
Security9
Security was actually one of the main goals of BitTorrent when they came up with the Sync app for iDevices. It's airtight for the most part, but it uses email for the “secrets” feature |
Battery9
No problems with battery drainage whatsoever. As long as you don’t sync copious amounts of data back and forth, you shouldn’t have to worry about your mileage. |
Price10
No charge whatsoever for all the advertised features. No ads, no in-app purchases. Max score for being as free as free gets. |
Compatibility9
Requires at least iOS 7, which means it's perfect for most devices. |
Not a lot of apps that get these kinds of scores around here
