Chrome Remote Desktop 1.0.7

Control your computers from afar with Chrome Remote Desktop
Sometimes, you need access to your own computer when you’re not home or when you’re in another room. In such situations, having your phone on hand can be extremely useful if you have Chrome Remote Desktop installed.

The service allows users to access other computers remotely through the Chrome browser or a Chromebook. All you need to do is have the Chrome Remote Desktop app installed on the computer and the mobile app on your phone.

Prove who you are

The iOS version of the app is easy to figure out and won’t require a lot of skill. As you launch the app, you’ll have to sign into your account. If you have another Google app installed on the phone, the Remote Desktop tool will suggest the accounts linked to it, if there are more, and you’ll have to pick one from there.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to see any computers that you’ve enabled the Chrome Remote Desktop app for. When trying to connect to the computer, you’ll have to provide the PIN code you’ve set on the desktop. As you get clearance, the screen of your computer will pop up.

There are several tools you can use to control the computer. First, there’s the mouse which you can move around the screen to whatever location you desire. The movement was fluent during our testing and we didn’t see any of the sequenced tracking we’ve seen with other similar tools.

Everything you need

Then, there’s the keyboard, which you can bring up when you want to search for something specific on a webpage or to write in a text file, for instance.
The entire app can be sent into full screen by simply tapping a button in the top ribbon. The dotted line holds another feature that can be quite useful, namely the ability to send the “Ctrl+Alt+Del” command to the computer if you’re tied to a Windows system.

The app supports landscape mode quite nicely and if you want to see more of your screen, then this is the way to go.

All in all, this is a pretty nice app and it can certainly be quite useful to have around. It’s easy to use and Google promises all connections are secure. Say what you will about Google, but security is one thing they’ve been known to focus on so at least that should be safe.
