LinkedIn Pulse 4.2

The news reader that brings you all the latest stories to prepare for your next business meeting
LinkedIn has made a name for itself for being the top network for professionals and business enthusiasts out there. But the social network also has a bunch of other apps that Android users may try out, one of them is Pulse.

It's a great news reader for busy professionals preparing for a meeting or for those who want to advance in their career. It helps you stay in the loop with all the relevant information and lets you follow important representatives of the business world.

Sleek interface

If you already have LinkedIn app installed on your phone, then Pulse will simply use your account to sign you in, but if not you'll need to register or log in. The first thing that you must do in the app is choose from a grid of publishers in order to customize the stories you get.

This seems a bit strange, since most news readers make you choose topics, instead of publishers. Afterwards, you need to pick the people you admire the most from a long list of professionals. Then you need to pick some channels or topics you're interested in. After finishing the time-consuming setup, you can finnaly start enjoying some content.

Read all sorts of interesting content

The content is truly top-notch, Pulse only provides you with stories from top publishers and followers, so you'll the information is relevant and well written. You can scroll down through headlines and pictures, while a tap is sufficient for opening a link.

Star articles, like or comment on them. There's also the option of sharing articles with friends on other social networks. However, the layout of the app wasn't well structured, saved articles are under the section of following users, which means you need to scroll down a long list to reach stories that interest you.

Connect with many

platforms

Still, the app lets you manage channels and people you follow as well as connect with many networks. You've got the option of connecting your account with Facebook or Twitter. Articles can also be saved in Pocket, Instapaper, Readability or Evernote apps, and it's probably for the best, since Pulse seems to hide them away.

Also, users may get notifications whenever new content is uploaded and you can choose for the app to display images or make the phone vibrate when you receive new stories. It doesn't have the option of changing font size or even switching to night view.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8

The interface is sleek with plenty of features and instructions to help you get used to it fast. But it does take a while to finish the initial setup.

Function7

It's great that you can save articles to read later, but the section should be easier to access and not hidden under the list of following users.

Security8

It shouldn't pose any privacy risks considering that users already have a LinkedIn account, but we're not sure why the app needs access to location services.

Battery8

Consumption is relatively high for a news reader app, so keep an eye on battery resources while reading articles.

Price9

Completely free of charge, no ads or in-app purchases but you'll need a LinkedIn account to use it.

Compatibility9

The developer didn't mention Android versions required for this app.

Editor's Review
VERY GOOD

A great news reader but they need to implement more features.
