Torque Voice Search 2.7.30002597

Truly one of the most powerful voice-search app on the market
In order to stay ahead, Microsoft launched its very own voice-search app that promises to be the most powerful on the market. Torque Voice Search is quite impressive, providing a seamless experience for users who wish to search the internet without affecting their current activity on the device. Torque Voice Search is available both on Android smartphones and smartwatches, but you'll need your device to run at least Jelly Bean 4.3 to use it.

Interface that resembles a widget

Actually the app looks like a widget and is only operated by gestures. It's quite simplistic on its own, but that's a good thing considering that nowadays even the most basic applications come with a plenitude of features that some users won't even try out.

Instead of overcrowding a simple app with tools and customization options, why not leave it lightweight and easy-to-use. That's the whole concept behind Torque. The name was probably chosen because of the app's ability to search and find answers fast.

Sign in with an account

Before you can actually start using Torque, you'll need to sign in with your Microsoft account. The app opens with a tutorial for Android Wear, showing users that they need to twist their wrist forward and backward in order to launch the app, and only then can they ask a question.

But the app doesn't provide users with instructions for smartphones, still it's pretty clear that you need to shake the phone in order to launch Torque. Afterwards, you can adjust settings in the app before you can actually use it.

Use Torque to search for various things on the internet

The neat thing about this voice-search app is that you don't have to close the app you were working on in order to launch it. Simply shake your phone and the widget will appear on the screen. You can search for various things, ask the widget a question and the answer will be displayed on the screen. It provides you with links, answers to math problems, tells the date and time, temperature, etc.

However, it seems that Torque has some trouble with retrieving your location and it might provide you with the wrong directions to the nearest airport or restaurant, for example. The app uses Bing to search for your results and answers.

Just like voice-search apps, Torque has trouble understanding speech at times. You'll have to be clear and coherent when speaking to the app and make sure background noises don't interfere with the search. Still, the app is a true competitor against Google's OK service.
