Google Authenticator 2.49
Depending on the nature of info stored on your phone and accounts, two-step verification could be a great method to securing your data and avoiding it getting into the wrong hands. Google Authenticator could help you with that, as it's a great tool for your Google accounts.
How it works
The app opens with explanations on how you can add this authentication method to your Google Account. It features information on the security method and on how it can be used to protect your info. Whenever you sign in to Google, you'll enter your username and password as usual.
Afterward, you'll be asked for a code that will be provided in the app. You can have the app stop asking for codes when trying to sign in from a certain computer or phone. Still, you'll need to type in a code if you've switched to a different device and wish to sign in to your Google account. But before you can do that, you must set up the two-step authentication method.
Set up two-step authentication
Visit accounts.google.com/security to set it up. Enable 2 step authentication and follow the steps to proceed. You'll need to provide a phone number for Google to send you a message or voice call whenever you sign in from an untrusted computer or device, but be aware that data charges may apply.
Make sure to enable the option for getting codes from the mobile data, before you exit setup. You can add further security from the website, by enabling backup phone numbers or codes. Next, you'll need to download the app and start setting up an account.
Setup your account
The interface is quite dark with few settings, but you won't be using this app for long periods of time. Select the menu from within the app and tap on set up an account, but only after you've finished the setup from a computer.
You can manually add an account or choose from the ones provided in the app. Scan the barcode on the computer and type it down in the signing up form. You don't need to memorize it as the app frequently changes codes for your convenience.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
There's not much of an interface considering that you'll only be using the app for signing in to your Google account on a computer. |
Function9
Increased protection for your Google account and all other profiles linked to it. The app generates codes even in offline mode. |
Security9
Unfortunately, almost all accounts can be hacked but this authenticator does provide increased protection. |
Battery9
Consumption is minimal, you'll only use the app when authenticating to your Google account for a new device. |
Price10
Completely free of charge if you use the app, unlike the method of sending codes to your mobile phone. |
Compatibility8
It should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.2 or later, making it accessible to many users. |
A great way to increase protection for your Google account.
