Lockwatch 3.3.2
Fortunately, there are free dedicated apps that actually work and provide users with all the features that might need. One of such apps is Lockwatch. It's a nifty and lightweight app that snaps pictures and discloses the location of your phone in case of theft.
Nifty app with many features at hand
Lockwatch doesn't launch with a tutorial but it does have a whole section with instructions that you can check out before activating the app. The interface doesn't use Material Design, all sections are arranged into tabs, you can swipe through them easily.
Activate the app before you can get started and adjust settings. It has a share icon if you wish to recommend it to friends. It also has an uninstall shortcut that you can use if you're dissatisfied with the application.
Protect your phone
Lockwatch needs to be used as a device administration, so that it can email you a photo and GPS location when someone tries to unlock your device with the wrong code. It only needs permission from your phone to monitor screen-unlock attempts. Lockwatch uses your stock lock screen and not a third-party one, so that it won't take up additional resources and storage space.
The app activates when you enter 4 incorrect digits or dots on the lock screen. It then snaps a picture with the front camera and sends it to your email account. The app is silent and invisible, it doesn't alert the intruder on the operation. If you enter the correct mode in 10 seconds time, the email won't be sent.
Some settings
You can adjust the number of unlock attempts and set whichever email address you wish. These are just the basic features, the app comes with some premium ones, like the option to detect SIM card changes and send an email when a different SIM card is inserted.
Have the app send you an email if the device was powered off without being unlocked first. You can also have it take multiple photos with a one second delay between them and record 20 seconds of sound.
Lockwatch can turn on data settings when sending the email and turn off when finished. The app doesn't wipe data on your device, but provides you with a link to the Android device manager.
