Wattpad 5.7.0
Wattpad helps you read a lot of stories for free and maybe even make you a writer yourself
If you’re an avid reader, then you’re most likely happy to get your hands on just about any kind of story, especially if offered for free. Wattpad is a platform that provides exactly that for a large number of people, both from the readers group and the writers group.
The iOS app comes with a simplified interface that makes using this app extremely easy. As you start off, you need to set up an account, and select a few titles from a list the app provides. Sure, you’re judging a book by its cover, which you really should not do, but it’s the only way to go, so just pick three that sound like something you would read.
These titles are then added to your library and you can add even more if you go to the “Discover” page. There, you’ll find featured stories, suggestions based on your original choices, short stories, popular books in various categories, such as romance and fiction and so on. You may even go to the bottom of the screen and choose one of the many categories available and browse them separately.
There’s also a News Feed where you can find recommendations made to you by Wattpad. You may also set up a reading list by going through the site and adding new titles to your account.
Reading any of the titles you’ve chosen is simple and the options you get once you open one of them are pretty much well-known to all digital readers who have tried out an e-book reading app. There’s a slider at the bottom of the page, as well as some buttons leading you to the comments section, the people who have added the title to the favorite list and the share function.
In the upper area you’ll find the options to adjust the text for your reading pleasure, starting with brightness, color theme (white, sepia, black), and the font size and type. Additional settings allow you to lock the page’s orientation, to allow inline comments to show up when reading and to fiddle with the reading mode (paging or scrolling). You may also turn on the auto scroll and adjust the speed if you want this.
Users can also use the app to write a story. After you’re finished jotting down the text, you can add a cover and publish the content for others to enjoy.
All in all, this is a pretty great app, although you’ll have a bit of a hard time finding more than user-generated content. We have spotted however, several classic stories such as Alice in Wonderland and Pride and Prejudice and also some Paulo Coehlo books in the listings and there are certainly more to be discovered.
