Tap Groceries 1.1
So 2010
It’s not the best looking app in its category, and it would certainly help if TapMedia bothered to optimize it for 4-inch displays, but if you happen to be wielding an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S (or even an older model), this app will fit snuggly on your iDevice.
It features skeuomorphic design from the iOS 4 days, hence the low firmware requirement, and although it looks thick and somewhat cluttered, we can think of quite a few people who would appreciate this design over the flat and washed out direction spawned by the arrival of iOS 7.
A grocery list that's already written
Tap Groceries lets you add items to your shopping list by picking them out from alcohol, bakery, beverages, cereal, canned goods, deli, frozen foods, etc. You don’t need to write them down yourself, and picking them out can actually help you remember to grab something that you’d forgotten about.
The app isn’t limited to just groceries, though. It’s also packed with entertainment items and office supplies, health & beauty products, etc.
The checklist is very intuitive and works much like a real life shopping list. Items are checked off the list via strikethrough using a red felt-pen effect, and you can see details for each item by tapping the arrow icon on each one (which can be very difficult for users with big thumbs). Details include quantity, nutritional value for each food, etc.
In fact, the nutritional value information alone is worth downloading this one. You can use it to learn what foods are good for you, depending on what your goal is (lose weight, pack on a few pounds, etc.).

Bottom Line
Design / UI6
Strictly visually speaking, Tap Groceries could use some work. The real-life checklist design is welcome, but it needs a facelift and a well-deserved expansion to fill the displays of newer iPhones. The app still lives in the iOS 4 era. The strikethrough effect is a nice touch as well. |
Function7
While it may be easier for some just to write down their own groceries and hit the door, other people prefer picking them out from a list. This way you can do it on the go (without having to concentrate so much on typing and correcting your spelling), and it lets you add things you’ve probably forgotten about. |
Security10
Other than the email function, there’s nothing that connects Tap Groceries to the outside world. It’s completely local. |
Battery7
Tap Groceries doesn’t drain much power at all, but unfortunately it prevents the phone from going to sleep if you forget it open on a desk or a table. This can result in quite a bit of drainage if you forget to pick up your phone for an hour or more. |
Price10
Tap Groceries is surprisingly fully free with no in-app purchase prompts and no ads. TapMedia’s apps generally have at least one of these drawbacks (usually both). Max score for that. |
Compatibility3
Considering the iOS 4 requirement, we could say TapMedia is very thoughtful. But looking at the two black stripes at the top and bottom of our iPhone’s display, it’s clear to us that they just left it unattended. No iPad version either. It only makes |
