Red Bull TV promises to put “a world of action, adventure and excitement to your iPhone/iPad.” And it does that full throttle.
Video-focused UI
The Red Bull TV app has a very simple interface. It begins with a long list of newly added videos, sponsored events, etc. which you can scroll through and make your pick. The thumbnails are pretty big, meaning not even three individual clips can fit on an iPhone 5’s display. As far as the app is concerned, that’s a good thing. As far as Apple is concerned, well we all know how much trouble they’ve been having coming up with a bigger iPhone.
Extensive library of HD content
Red Bull TV features exciting programming from all over the world, including live global events, extreme sports, music and various other forms of entertainment. The search function works really well. Just punch in a keyword like “surfing” or “snowboarding” or whatever and boom! you get a long list of HD videos featuring that awesome sport or activity.
Red Bull TV offers exclusive coverage of Lollapalooza 2014, with the network saying, “Experience a multi-channel platform of 100+ live performances, behind-the-scenes access, exclusive interviews, unique camera angles and 200+ hours of exclusive content.”
The fact that the app comes with Chromecast support makes the tool that much more useful, especially for big events that you'd rather watch on the big screen TV, rather than on your iDevice.
4+ age rating
While the Red Bull TV app certainly doesn't serve up any "adult" content, we feel that the 4+ age requirement is really not appropriate. Kids will not think twice before making a wingsuit out of sheets, then fly off the roof of their house when the parents aren't home. Just saying.
