Photographs have their beauty, but having a drawing that looks handmade can be even more beautiful. Sketching a drawing yourself can be great, but if you don’t have the talent for it, you’ll end up with more of a cartoon rather than an accurate replica of a photograph or of someone’s face.

Pencil Sketch is an app that will solve this problem for you and just transform the whole thing on its own in the blink of an eye.

Easy to use

As you launch the app you’ll notice that things aren’t all that complicated when it comes to this app. In fact, things are pretty simple and straightforward. You can pick what you want to do. For instance, you can give the app access to your camera so you can take a new photograph of someone, or just go to your photo gallery and pick one that you’ve already taken. The third button gives you access to the settings area which doesn’t really hold much data anyway.

Once you’ve chosen your photograph, you can crop it. You may pick a picture scale or go freehand, rotate the image or flip it altogether. Once this step is done just tap on the checkmark at the top.

The app provides a range of options that you may choose from when it comes to the type of sketch you want to obtain. For instance, you can use pencils, colored pencils, crayons, gouaches, water colors, gradients, and so on. Just tap from one to the other and see which one you like the most.

There’s also a settings button that allows you to customize how the sketch looks like. For instance, you can use thinner or thicker lines, adjust the contrast and colors and brightness. It depends, of course, of the style you picked.

Save and share

At the end, you can have the app save the resulting image or to share it via a series of tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, WhatsApp, Dropbox, Flickr, vKontakte and so on.

While this may be a simplistic app, it’s still one that does a great job as far as sketches goes. In fact, they look pretty great and if you adjust things a bit, they’ll look even better. It depends, of course, of the original photo you use and what would work best for it.
