Peak - Brain Training 1.7.1
Of course, things become a lot easier once you download a dedicated app that can help with the training by giving you various exercises to keep your brain active.
Peek – Brain Training is one of the apps that will help you in this direction with the help of several well-thought out games that will keep you on your toes. To motivate you, the app comes with goals that you can accomplish by fulfilling various steps along the way and getting high scores in the brain games you play.
The tool offers you the chance to track your performance over multiple days and months so you can see whether you’ve made any improvements.
Tell the app what you want
To start things off, however, you have to tell the app just what your own personal goals are and why you want to start training. The app has divided these goals into several categories – memory, language, focus, problem solving, and mental agility. For each of these, you can tell the app just what you want to accomplish, such as remembering important information, becoming more creative with language, working better in noisy environments, making better decisions under pressure, or improving your multi-tasking abilities.
You’ll also have to sign up to create a training account, either with the help of an email address or via Facebook. If you choose the latter, you won’t have to worry about seeing things you don’t allow on your wall.
You must also provide some personal details to help tailor your training, such as the name, date of birth, gender, education and profession. The initial workout that the app prepares for you will help Peak understand your current levels.
Play some games
There are a lot of games involved, such as the “Perilous Path” where you have to remember where the bombs are and avoid them when joining two dots on a grid, or “Low Pop” where you have to tap on a series of cards with numbers on them, from lowest to highest. Each will help you improve a different part of your brain, work towards another goal.
When you’re done, you’ll get a map of your brain, telling you how well-developed it is in certain areas following the first assessment. Further testing will likely change things up quite a bit.
All in all, Peak is a pretty cool game that should give you a taste of what training your brain feels like. Just remember to focus on the games while you’re at them or your scores will not look too great.
Costly IAPs
Unfortunately, for all the quality Peak offers it’s also relatively expensive. While the free version does come with a decent number training options, the games are fairly limited. You’ll eventually want to pluck out some cash to expand the list of training materials, and they’re available via monthly or annual subscription.
The app is also iPad ready, thanks to a recent update when the devs completely optimized it for the tablet computer. The Peak account is also able to sync all your data across devices, which means that you can swap between them as needed without having to worry about anything else.
