Jamie's Recipes 3.1
Packed to the rafters with both simple and complex recipes, imagery, video tutorials and lists of things you need around the kitchen to get stuff done just like Jamie, this app deserves nothing but praise from anyone who happens to review it. However, like any product worth your while, it’s not exactly free.
Endless selection of recipes
Renowned British chef Jamie Oliver is the best at what he does. He tries to convey his cooking talent and amazing recipes over to you via his handy iOS app. It starts off with a few free recipes to get you going, while subscribers get unlimited access to hundreds (if not thousands) of dishes and just as many ways to prepare them.
Every recipe comes with a brief intro from Jamie, as well as instructions, ingredients (that can also be turned into a shopping list with checkboxes), things you need, photos, video guides, sharing features, and more. Jamie’s invaluable advice and charisma will make you fall in love with cooking.
Free trial, subscriptions
Jamie is generous enough to offer a 7-day free trial that opens up the app’s full functionality without asking for your subscription. However, take note that once you enable that free trial, the app automatically registers your intention to continue using it afterwards, at which point you’ll also be billed. It isn’t clear how you stop the process, but it should be somewhere in the FAQ. Consider this a warning.
As for the subscriptions, they’re not exactly cheap. There are several IAPs for “Jamie's Recipes Subscription” ranging from $2.99 to $11.99. Again, it isn’t clear how these are billed (monthly, annually), so do your research first. One thing is certain, though: if you want top notch cooking advice and recipes, you’ll need to cough up some cash.
Comprehensive UI
Jamie’s app is as much of a looker as it is a cooking companion. Designed with great care and attention to how the user navigates the various menus and subsections, the entire app looks like a real cooking book. Lists are made to appear like notebook pages, instruction cards can be swiped through one by one, etc.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
Superbly designed, Jamie Oliver’s Recipes looks like a cooking book, but with easy navigation features. |
Function9
Makes you fall in love with cooking. The sound effects are a bit annoying, but these can be turned off in the settings pane. |
Security7
It’s not clear how the subscription model works and it’s easy to get billed accidentally. |
Battery8
Normal drainage levels. |
Price7
Seems expensive and the pricing scheme is a bit confusing. |
Compatibility8
iOS 7.1 and all iDevice models. |
We wish Jamie made it a bit more clear how the subscription system works.
