I’m pretty sure you’ve gone through the difficult process of deciding where to spend an evening out with your friends at least once in your life. Everyone wants a certain thing and since all your buddies need to feel great during this outing, it’s advisable to try to accommodate their desires if possible.

So what are you left to do other than scour the Internet for the best solution? Well, you could try out Yelp, which is a crowd-sourced review tool for businesses from several countries around the world, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Norway, Spain, the UK and the United States, to name just a few.

Filter it down

The app allows you to search for places nearby, whether you’re looking for a restaurant, bars, coffee and tea shops, a delivery place or one that accepts reservations. Alternatively, you can pan the map to the desired location and have the app look for places in that general area.

You’ll get a lot of locations pinned to the map, which you can further filter out to drag down the number of available options so you don’t have to read a million reviews. For instance, you can decide whether the location practices lower or higher prices, whether the restaurant is open, and offers delivery, whether it supports online reservations, is good for groups or kids, offers free wi-fi, and outdoor seating and accepts credit cards, to name just a few.

Once the list has been reduced somewhat, you can check out the proposed locations. Tapping on any of the pins will give you the name, rating and type of food it caters to, if it’s a restaurant. For more information, you’ll have to tap on the card again and check out the full data, including the location, phone number and opening hours, specialties and a short history. People’s reviews and photos are also available.

You can check in and add photos of your own, as well as a review. It’s also possible to bookmark the location and return to it at a later time.

Yelp is definitely a great tool that should help you discover new cool places where you can have dinner, a drink or just enjoy some peace and quiet.
