Ginger Page 3.0.4
It’s interesting to see how some developers manage to come up with brilliant, one-of-a-kind apps yet still resist the urge of instating ways of monetizing them either via ads or in-app purchases. Apparently Ginger Page is one of those apps.
For illiterates and non-native English speakers
They say the first step towards healing is admission. While admitting that you’re illiterate will not instantly brush up your English skills, you can at least admit it to yourself by downloading Ginger Page.
Jokes aside, the app can be used by people who either aren’t very good at spelling (not necessarily illiterate), and non-native speakers. It offers suggestions along the way, such as “write” instead of “right” or vice versa, depending on your context, and it scans not just the word that’s currently being typed, but the whole sentence.
It’s also a good tool for people who are constantly fumbling to hit the right keys on the iPhone’s minuscule display. That’s right Apple. As good as the iPhone 5 has been, not that you’ve finally gone the extra mile it’s pretty apparent that four inches just doesn’t cut it.
And whenever you’re stuck using the same words over and over again, just hit up the synonyms section and look up other words with the same meaning.
Built-in dictionary, translator, phrase of the day
In addition to all of the above, Ginger Page has a trio of awesome features that makes it even harder to believe this app is 100% free of charge. It’s got a built-in dictionary, a translator with support for over 40 languages, and a phrase of the day section where you can see detailed descriptions for phrases and proverbs, like “a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” or “let the cat out of the bag.”
Clean, cyan-themed UI
The GUI is one of the nicest I’ve seen in a text editor. It’s clean, albeit a little washed out, with cyan-themed framing and fonts, and minimalistic graphics.
It’s easy to navigate, and the retractible panel on the left is the right way to go when so many options are involved. All in all, Ginger Software has done an amazing job with this app.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
One of the nicest GUI’s I’ve seen in a productivity app, albeit a tad washed out. |
Function9
Does more things than you’d expect, but the proofreader isn’t 100% accurate. |
Security7
Has the usual sharing features, requires an account to be used. |
Battery9
Very low consumption levels, but it’s nothing that you wouldn’t expect. After all, it just deals with text. |
Price10
Can you ask for more from a free app? |
Compatibility9
Requires iOS 7.0 and works natively with all iDevices. |
One of the best productivity tools in the App Store, and it’s also a great travel companion.
