OsmAnd Maps & Navigation 1.9.5
However, they are among the largest apps that you'd find on Google Play Store, mainly because they come with lots of preinstalled maps. OsmAnd Maps & Navigation lets you download whichever map you wish, in order to keep the app to a minimum size and to consume few resources.
Sleek interface with plenty to offer
The first thing that you need to do inside the app is to download whichever map you wish to use with the app. The free version lets you download up to 10 maps, you'll need to upgrade to the premium version if you want more. The pro version costs 7.49$. It takes a while to download maps, but that also depends on your internet connection.
Once they were saved on your device, you can start exploring the map and use the navigation to get anywhere you need to go. It sports an intuitive interface that even comes with additional themes that you can apply.
Get directions to anywhere you need to be
A side menu gives you access to all sort of sections. OsmAnd Maps & Navigation uses the free, worldwide, and high-quality OpenStreetMap (OSM) data. It's filled with all sort of landmarks and POI (points of interest) that you can access and get directions to easily.
The app lets you configure the map and decide which icons will be shown on it. You can change the map rendering style and text size. Have it display public transportation also, as well as restrictions, road surface and quality. It uses voice navigation to get you where you need to be.
Some settings
Other than that, the app lets you search for multiple POI, including accommodation, car aid, food shops, healthcare and more. You can filter results or search for locations by providing the app with coordinates. It comes with a whole detailed section featuring lots of search tools but it makes it quite difficult to search for a place by simply typing in the name.
Still, the good thing about this app is that it works offline, so some of its features can be used without internet connection. You can save locations inside the app, so that you could access them faster. It also comes with lots of plugins that you can download and install inside the app.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The interface is okay, it works just fine and it comes with multiple themes and you can apply. |
Function8
It works just fine even offline, although it takes a while to calculate routes and lags a bit when you zoom out. |
Security8
It needs quite a few permissions from your phone, but they're all connected to its features so you don't need to worry about privacy issues. |
Battery4
As expected consumption is high, but it seems to be higher than for any other navigation app that we've come across. |
Price8
You can only download 10 maps for free, buy the premium version for 7.49$ and get the full app. |
Compatibility8
The app should work on devices running Android version 2.1 or later. |
It could use some improvements.
