NYTimes 4.1.0
Sleek interface packed with features
With the exception of a few apps, almost all news readers sport the same layout for their user interface. Still, NYTimes stands out by providing features and tools that are easy to access from where ever in the app. The interface only comes in English and has some instructions to get you started.
Content isn’t free, but you can navigate and check out all sections of the app during a one week free trial. Afterwards, you’ll need to subscribe for 14.99$ per month for the smartphone app or 34.99$ per month for all access.
Read all sorts of articles
The side menu is filled various sections and topics you can access. There are articles on health, arts, travel, etc. The top events are unfolded and analyzed in articles on the main page. Tap on one to read and comment, but only after you register with an email address.
Share articles on social networks and use the many tools that make reading easier. There’s the option of changing the font size or enabling night mode if you’re reading in dim lights and don’t want your eyes to hurt from the bright display.
Listen to articles
You can download articles and images for offline reading or play them. The app uses computer voices but they’re not as bothersome as others in similar apps. Add reports in a playlist and have the app play them without interruption.
The app also offers access to magazines and blogs, including The 6th Floor and Lens blog about photography. Also, you can choose between the US and international editions, or enable notifications for breaking news. The side menu also includes a search bar, so you can find articles on various topics.

Battery8
Consumption is normal for a news reader app, but you might feel an impact if you play articles. |
Price8
The free trial lasts for one week and afterwards you’ll have to pay for a subscription, depending on which devices you’ll be using to read articles. |
