NBC News 5.2.1
Sleek but a bit confusing interface
NBC News app doesn't sport the same-old interface with side menu, but one with a toolbar on top and a settings icon on the top right corner. A side page opens on the left, but offers access to features, all sections are available in the toolbar.
The app doesn't come with any instructions of a tutorial, but you'll get the hang of it fast. Enable notifications in order to receive alerts of breaking news, but make sure to set a quiet time, so the app wouldn't disturb you at work.
Browse through various articles
The home section is filled with all sorts of articles, but mainly on politics, world events, business and finance, as well as health and entertainment. You'll find detailed reports with videos and testimonies in the “In depth” section of the app.
In addition, there's a section that presents all shows at the TV station, together with the latest video recordings. If you're interested in a certain topic, check out the section with categories, choose from tech, sports, lifestyle and many other topics. Use the search bar on top of the screen to find reports on what interests you the most.
Read all sorts of articles and reports
Users have the option of adjusting the size of the text, by using the toolbar on the bottom of the screen. They can also save articles for later or share them with friends on social networks. The app also records your history and has separate sections for saved articles in the side menu.
The articles are well written, feature sources and relevant information, which is to be expected considering that the app comes from one of the top news agencies in the USA. Still, the application has some stability and interface issues. In some sections, the UI is ill-fitted and the app crashes when opening slideshows.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
The interface is different from other news readers, which is a good thing but the categories section should be easier to reach. |
Function8
The app has some issues and may crash at times. Still, it comes with offline reading and some features, but no night mode. |
Security9
It doesn't need online registration and peaks into few areas of your phone. |
Battery6
It takes up more resources than some other apps that have more features, so keep an eye on battery levels. |
Price9
It's free but comes with all sorts of ads, including video and there's no option of removing them from the app. |
Compatibility8
It should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.3 or later, making it accessible to many users. |
A neat news reader app but we've seen better.
