Ghostery Privacy Browser 1.2.1
Truly lightweight interface with many features
The app doesn't come with a tutorial, only two screens prompting users to enable features. The interface resembles that of Google Chrome, except it has more color. Still, you can find settings in the top right corner of the screen.
There are no additional themes or skins to choose from, but the menu is neatly arranged with tabs for each category of settings. Just like other browsers, Ghostery lets you share web pages or bookmark them to get easy access any time. It also imports bookmarks from all major browsers, including Chrome.
Search the web easily
Ghostery doesn't use popular search engines to retrieve the information you need. Instead it uses Duck Duck Go, a search engine that promises to protect searchers' privacy. The search engine doesn't profile users and shows them the same search results for a given search item.
Still, users aren't just left with the one search engine, they can switch to more popular ones as the app offers a long list of options. Also, before you start surfing remember to block popups and prevent them from interfering with your activity online. In addition, tabs helps you manage multiple pages and the browser automatically reopens your last viewed page when you launch it. The app lets you increase text for webpages and save images to your device.
Protect your surfing activity from trackers
Moreover, Ghostery blocks trackers and prevents them from running in your browser, which can help control how your behavioral data is tracked. However, some trackers might be useful, like the ones linked to social networks and games, so the blocking feature may have unintentional effects on them. Regarding privacy matters, you can have the app block cookies that are now part of almost any website.
All in all, Ghostery is a nifty browser that helps protect your privacy online, but it does have some shortcomings. Since the app is new to the market, it needs some more enhancements, like plugins and the option to go incognito. Still it has one problem with importing bookmarks, it doesn't import text leaving blank rows on the screen. You also have the option of organizing your bookmarks into folders.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The interface seems a bit simplistic and resembles that of Chrome. It could also use some themes and back/forward buttons should be repositioned. |
Function7
It doesn't seem to have any stability issues, but it's missing some essential features like plugins. Also, it only imports bookmarks from certain browsers. |
Security8
There's no reason for it to access location services but still it does. Also, incognito mode would be useful. |
Battery6
It seems to take up a lot of resources and may cause your device to heat up. |
Price10
Free of ads and no in-app purchases, this app comes with all features for free. |
Compatibility8
It needs Android version 4.0.3 or later to work, making it inaccessible to some users. |
A decent browse that does what it promises, but it could use more features.
