Yahoo News Digest 1.6.0
In early 2014, Yahoo launched News Digest to make things easier for you, knowing that you don’t really have the time to read a million news articles each day. The launch of the new app follows the company’s acquisition of Summly, a summarization tool that had a similar purpose.
As expected, News Digest delivers a list of important articles on a series of topics of interest. There are only ten on each digest, but they come twice a day, twelve hours apart, at 8.00 and 18.00.However, iOS 8 users can customize when their notifications hit, programming the morning digest from anywhere between 7 AM and 9 AM, and the evening digest between 5 PM and 9PM.
How does it work?
As you go through the articles, you’ll see news about important events from all continents, but also things that could be classified as “international.” There’s also news from the technology area, health, sports and entertainment.
The app works by taking a handful of sources tackling the same topic and summarizing them all to present you with a comprehensive, computer-made, article that includes the most important information. The piece is completed with a series of related photographs, details about the main topics of the article, tweets and the list of articles they used for reference, if you want to read more.
Sharing of the articles is also possible and you can do this via Yahoo Mail, Facebook or Twitter.
Progress tracking
As soon as you go through an article, you’ll see the progress marked on the wheel at the bottom of the app’s page. You can even check out to see how your reading has progressed over the past month and whether you’ve gone through your morning and evening digests.
There are four different digests you can get, depending on the area where you live. For instance, there’s one dedicated to the United States, one to the United Kingdom, one for Canada and an International one.
