BBC Sport 1.7.2.218
BBC Sport is one of those app, although it's quite simplistic compared to other applications in the market. It lets you pick your favorite sport and team, enable notifications and read all the latest articles on topics that interest you the most.
Simplistic interface with some features
We've tested our fair share of sports apps here and have concluded that such applications need a nice interface to make them more appealing to users. Still, the app has a rather intuitive layout with a side menu and plenty of sections to check out and lots of content on each topic and category.
The app comes with a very comprehensive tutorial that shows users how to access all features and how to navigate inside the app. It has a widget with top stories, you can customise the widget to see headlines for your favourite sports.
Stay on top of sports news
The app doesn't really have a menu with settings only the side menu with lots of sections. You can get articles on football, formula 1, cricket, tennis and many more.
The app comes with articles and reports on basically any sports that you're interested in and it provides well-written articles from one of the top news agencies in the world.
All articles come with tags and the option of sharing them with friends on Facebook or Twitter. You can also send content by email but you can't save them for offline reading. You can add shortcuts to topics in the quick links section, so you'll have easy access to all content in the app.
Set alerts for topics that interest you the most
Another neat feature inside the app is that you can set alerts for topics that you're interested in. Users can enable notifications only for a few sports, football, formula 1 or cricket.
Still, they can choose from several championships and teams depending on the sport they choose. You can have the app set alerts for line-ups, kick-of, goals and results during a match.
However, there's no option of choosing when the content inside the app will be updated or of increasing the size or changing the style of font. The app also comes with one theme, there's no dark theme or a reading mode.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The interface is nice, but it could really use some improvements and extra themes or the option of adjusting font size or style. |
Function8
The app works just fine, but it could really use some extra features and the option of setting alerts for more than three sports. |
Security9
It only needs a few permissions from your phone, to areas that are connected to its features. |
Battery8
Consumption isn't high, but you should still keep an eye on resources when using this app. |
Price10
It's completely free of charge, no ads or in-app purchases whatsoever. |
Compatibility8
It should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.3 or later, making it accessible to many users. |
A nice news reader app with lots of sports news but it would need some more features.
