Planets 1.0.0.0

Learn a bit about every planet of the Solar System and check out some amazing photos of the celestial bodies
Whether needed for study in school or simply to help broaden the personal knowledge, searching for information concerning the Sun, Moon and planets is an activity most users carry out at a certain point in life.

To help those who are seeking for exact data about the star shedding light from the middle of our solar system, about Earth's sole satellite or the neighboring planets, there are several apps waiting to be discovered in the Windows Phone Store.

Among those utilities there is one suggestively called Planets that focuses on technical data and features some imagery for the aforementioned celestial bodies.

Pleasant appearance with an appropriate layout

The beautiful interface of this application has some really neatly polished graphics, designed to catch the user's eye and also provide a nice overview of each planet.

The amazing background and the images that are included in each planet's description are some high-quality photos, but moving through the list of images is difficult for the most part because swiping to change the pics results in the complete shift of the screen in view.

Discover some interesting facts about each planet in the Solar System

Planets comes with a good deal of information regarding the dimensions, atmosphere, temperature, orbit and distance to the Sun. These are only basic details, but nonetheless pretty useful in many circumstances, especially for those who want to view a comparison relative to our planet's mass, for example.

The photos for each planet present it in various stances and some offer a graphical perspective of the composition of the celestial body. The only drawback is that Pluto, the dwarf planet many are used to mention alongside the others in our Solar system is missing.

Hits & Misses

hits

  • comes with great looking graphics and images of the celestial bodies
  • users can use it offline

misses

  • the amount of information it provides is not sufficient
  • should include Pluto in the list of planets as well
Bottom Line
Design / UI9

The GUI is really good looking, thanks to the numerous high-quality photographs that are included in the package. The only letdown is that the home screen is only shown in landscape mode and its orientation cannot be changed.

Function7

The app comes to provide only some elementary data about each planet it contains, as well as concerning the Sun and Moon. The fact that it doesn't list Pluto and also the lack of more in-depth information make it lose some points from the functional perspective.

Security10

Perfectly safe to use, this utility doesn't need access to any area of the system where sensitive data is stored and it doesn't send out any information.

Battery8

The battery usage is low to average, mainly because of the high-quality graphics that are characteristic to this application, so the battery consumption remains within normal limits while this tool is active.

Price9

Overall, this application represents a good effort, that must be appreciated since everything is completely free and without any nuisance in sight. However, there are similar apps that carry a lot more information and this decreases its value a bit.

Compatibility9

Most Windows Phone users should be able to run Planets onto their handsets as it only needs version 7.5 or above of the operating system.
