Universe 1.0.0.0
Astronomy enthusiasts, or just about any regular user can try onto their Windows Phone handsets a utility called Universe, which can bring them a bit of useful data about planets, including some nice imagery.
Beautiful looks for a well made GUI
The beautiful interface of this application has some really neatly polished graphics, designed to catch the user's eye, some amazing background wallpapers and there is also a nice overview of each planet.
The default viewing mode for the planet list relies on the landscape screen orientation, while for reading the facts inside each planet's section you will return to the portrait view.
Organized in such a manner that every bit of information is well structured and accessible from the designed areas, Universe ensures a pleasant experience while browsing through its database.
Pick the planet and read some basic info
Selecting any of the celestial bodies that are neatly ordered according to their distance from the Sun you will access the quick facts section of each of them.
The short descriptions of the planets contain several references to the Earth, for reasons of making things easier to understand by comparison with measurement units we are familiar with.
Depending on the selected planet you can also view some relevant photos of its phases, diagrams that describe its structure and composition or relevant atmospheric events occurring on that planet.
Animated views and extra details in the go
Inside Universe you have a special section reserved to a neat perspective of each celestial body, which will appear suspended and rotating against a beautiful space background. Unfortunately, you cannot change the view or zoom in the animation, which would have made the app more interactive.
There is another separate area inside the listing of each planet and this section is reserved to the presentation of the main elements that make up the atmosphere surrounding each celestial body.
Thus, you can view the proportion of each of the main gases alongside a relevant picture that shows them in stances that should be familiar to you, as these ingredients are common on our planet as well.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
Mostly well designed, with fine graphics and a good organization of the content, the application's interface is both pleasant to look at and practical in use. |
Function7
The app provides some elementary data about each planet, but the fact that it doesn't list Pluto and also the lack of more in-depth info make it lose some points. |
Security10
Perfectly safe to use, as it doesn't peer in any secure area of the phone, Universe receives top marks for its discretion and excellent behavior |
Battery8
The moderate power consumption of the utility keeps the battery usage at normal levels at all times, without any unexpected and unwanted peaks. |
Price10
This tool is a very good choice for anyone who wants to learn some useful facts about the planets of our Solar System as it is completely free. |
Compatibility10
Well suited for almost all Windows Phone devices on the market, the app needs Windows Phone version 7.5 and higher. |
