OneDrive 4.11.0.0
OneDrive is the solution made available by Microsoft and it aims to bring together those who use desktop or laptop computers, tablets, smartphones, Macs and Xbox devices powered by various flavors of Windows, iOS or Android.
Tidy looks and a plain GUI
Simplicity and ease of use seem to be the coordinates on which this app was designed because it offers a clean layout, with all the functions accessible from the menu that can be brought up from the lower part of the screen.
The details and thumbnails views offer different perspectives, so if you want to know at a glance how many items are contained in any of the listed folders and their total size, you can choose the first setting.
There is, however, a drawback related to this view, namely the fact that it doesn't offer an accurate count of the files that are inside each container if it has to deal with several subfolders. Instead, you will see the total number of items, which actually refers to the folders and files that are stored directly inside the main directory.
Fast uploads and minimalistic configuration
As is the case with most online storage clients, the most important things to look for are the transfer speed and the item refresh rate, which work together to make the uploaded files available as soon as possible.
For OneDrive both are very good and will allow you to share music, videos, images or any document in a matter of seconds. The time it takes to send the files in the cloud depends exclusively on the size of the target files and on the speed of your Internet connection.
The customizations, on the other hand are scarce and the only things you can configure are the photo upload and download sizes, which can be either original or resized.
The recently introduced support for multiple accounts is a great addition that allows you to manage content from separate personal and work accounts, for instance, while the access to the application can be restricted with a password.

Bottom Line
Design / UI6
The interface is rather plain and the fact that users cannot assign custom images to the folder thumbnails can make this view rather unappealing. The navigation is indeed pretty smooth, but that does little to alleviate the impression of bareness given by the GUI. |
Function6
Overall, the operation is simple and the basic features that make for fast uploads and quick file management are present, so there is little to dislike here. On the other hand, the lack of customizations and functions, like notifications or selective synchronization, which are available in other similar solutions weighs quite a lot on OneDrive. |
Security9
Fortunately for OneDrive, the lack of ads and other annoyances that come in plenty for many other applications redeem it a bit. The data is kept safe and only the files shared through the Public folder will be accessible to other users. |
Battery8
There is no excessive power usage from this app, as it will only draw energy from the handset's battery when uploading and downloading data to and from the cloud. Moving large files with OneDrive, though, means that the wireless connection must be kept alive for longer periods of time and thus the energy consumption will become more noticeable. |
Price9
Since it is offered free of cost to all users, OneDrive earned a lot of appreciation, especially because it can be a very handy tool for cross-platform sharing for those who are looking for a simple means of transferring files. |
Compatibility9
Those who own a Windows Phone 7.5 or newer device can enjoy this app on their devices. The screen resolutions it feels comfortable with are HD720P (720x1280), WVGA (480x800) and WXGA (768x1280). |
