Home Remedies 2.2
Carrying around a notebook with grandma's recipes for treating a running nose or various allergies may be less convenient, but if you have your Windows Phone handset with you at all times, Home Remedies is an app you might want to take a closer look at.
Tidy look with a neat structuring of the content
Through a clean and well organized interface you will be able to browse the available remedies and find out the multiple uses of common ingredients like herbs, fruits, vegetables or spices, you already have around the house. Moving through menus and recipes is very fluent, but the ads that appear suddenly in full screen will take away some of that good impression.
The application displays in the "Highlights" area several categories of problems you might be interested in solving, while also providing a smart switch in the next screen, designed for changing the categories in view from diseases to remedies and vice versa.
Find the best remedies and add voice memos with ease
Any remedy you find interesting and useful can be marked as favorite, to make it easier to identify in the main list. Also, you can add as many items as you please in the personal remedies list, so as to be able to reach them with only a couple of taps, instead of having to search for that item every time you come across the same problem.
A very handy feature of Home Remedies is the ability to create voice memos, each with a maximum length of one minute. You can give them individual names and then play the notes by pressing the "Play" symbol displayed next to every entry on the recordings' list.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
The beautiful layout of the application is well designed and is coupled with a smooth navigation and a nice arrangement of the information. The high-quality pictures and the good choice of colors for the tiles shown in the home screen are obscured by ugly advertisements that stretch on the whole screen. |
Function7
Although the recipes and tips that Home Remedies brings for all users are very good, they cover only a limited number of affections and it would do this app a lot of good to have more categories for both remedies and diseases. |
Security6
As this utility is supposed to offer only health advice from its own database, it is at least curious that it requires access to location services, phone dialer, contacts and appointments, as well as phone and owner identity details. |
Battery8
The app is friendly with the system resources and the power consumption will remain moderate throughout the runtime of the utility. |
Price8
There is a good deal of information offered free of cost to everyone, but Home Remedies takes its toll in a different manner, by feeding users a heap of ads each time they open the application. |
Compatibility9
Thanks to the fact that this app can run on every Windows Phone 7.5 and above handset, there are a lot of users who can benefit from it, especially since there are no special requirements to have it up and running. |
