Google Translator 2.3.0.0
Digital helpers are available in great numbers and Windows Phone users are fortunate enough to have at their disposal an application like Google Translator, which can handle text input and offer quick results.
Plain GUI, focused on practical use
This application offers you a basic and unadorned interface, with simple design and structuring of the content, as the ease of use is one of the main goals.
Since the utility relies on Google's translation engine and uses its layout as well, it will be pretty easy to get familiarized with the placement of all the features. The translated words appear as you type, so there are no delays in this respect.
However, a most annoying presence is felt all through the app and it is that of the advertisements. The ad banners appear in the lower side of the screen and will be flashing continuously, while form time to time you will get some adverts in full screen and also some prompts that ask you to rate and review this app.
Type the words or phrases to get the translation on the spot
The main purpose of this application is to provide translations as quickly and as accurately as possible and Google Translator seems to be well prepared for this. There are around 80 languages waiting to be selected and the "auto-detect" feature is enabled by default.
Unfortunately, typing the words you need to translate is the only way to feed content into this utility, as it lacks the voice recognition feature that is present in most apps of this kind.
Text to speech abilities
Google Translator tries to compensate some of its lacks and misses by providing a nice feature designed to enable you to listen to the original text and to the translation in the target language.
Thus, with one tap on the corresponding button you can hear either the original text spoken in the native language or the translated content. On the downside, you cannot choose the voice like with other similar tools.

Bottom Line
Design / UI5
The unadorned GUI, with a lot of advertisements inside and some occasional prompts scores few points from the visual perspective. |
Function6
The feature set offered by this application is pretty slim and lacks originality as it relies mostly on the large number of languages and on the integration of the Google Translate engine. |
Security5
A bit too curious, the utility looks into the phone dialer, owner and phone identities, as well as in other areas unrelated to its functionality. |
Battery3
While the application is running the power consumption is considerable, so the battery usage registers very high values. |
Price9
This is a pretty valuable application, which can be a reliable translation assistant, the only cost of using it is having to endure the ceaseless ads. |
Compatibility9
The majority of Windows Phone powered devices are able to handle this app, as it requires version 8 and above of the operating system. |
