One of the utilities that was designed especially for Windows Phone users is BigOven and, as its name clearly suggests, it uses the content provided by the well-known online culinary database.
Decent looks and pragmatical layout
The application comes with a nice and simple design, focused on the practical use rather than on being appealing, but without neglecting completely the visual aspect. The various sections of the utility provide quick access to all the features of the utility and keep the content well organized.
Moving through the long lists of recipes and in pretty much any area of the app is done fluently, without any glitches or delays when loading text or photos. The main letdown are the continuously changing adverts that appear in the lower part of the screen.
Traditional and innovative features in a single package
BigOven offers a decent search function that offers very good suggestions based on the keywords you input. The recipes contain all the details you will need and most have some illustrative photos attached. Unfortunately, the nutrition facts are not available unless you purchase the Pro version.
One of the neat characteristics of this app is the ability to add to the grocery list all the ingredients from any recipe you are viewing. Another novelty brought by this app is hosted in the "Use up leftovers" section where you can enter up to 3 ingredients and get a list of suggestions you can choose from and cook a fast dinner, for example.
