iLed FlashLight iPhone 1.5
To be frank, there’s no reason to download this app unless you’re tired of the zero-interface flashlight utility that Apple has built inside iOS. It’s not easier to use it either. It’s just, well, different. But not necessarily in a good way.
Just another app to clutter your home screen
iLed FlashLight is admittedly a welcoming app with nice warm colors and a simple interface. It’s actually one of the simplest flashlight apps we’ve tested so far. The moment you launch it, your phone’s LED flash turns on and you can use the phone as a flashlight from then on, until you either press the big On/Off button in the middle, or shut down the app.
Limited number of features
A flashlight utility doesn’t need to have a lot of functions. The simpler, the better. After all, most users just want a good working, fast-acting flashlight when the situation calls for it. iLed also has a strobe mode and an SOS signal (in morse code). That’s pretty much it. No intensity levels, no front-facing flashlight (make the display white), nada. Just three simple ways to use the rear-facing camera flash to light up dark environments.
Ad-supported
To put bread on the table, developer iDream Studios decided to equip the free version with ads and sell a separate, ad-free version for $0.99. It’s a good way to give users choice, as well as monetize the product. But, as I noted above, it’s really not a must-have utility. There are countless other tools like this in the App Store, much better looking, with more features, more reliable and even without ads, that are 100% free of charge. If you take a minute to look through our other recommended flashlight apps, you’ll see what I mean.

Bottom Line
Design / UI0
Nice design, warm colors, simple to use and not intrusive at all. |
Function0
Has a limited number of features and doesn’t really compete with other flashlight apps in any way. |
Security0
Zero problems in this department. |
Battery0
Expect heavy drainage when used extensively. It’s normal for such an app, but we need to grade it properly. |
Price0
Considering that the ads are not intrusive, the free version is quite okay. But the paid version is not worth the buy, considering there are other one-dollar apps in the store that do much more. |
Compatibility0
Needs only iOS 5.1 to run but won’t do anything on devices that lack the rear-facing LED flash. Normally, flashlight apps offer the option to use the screen to make light when no flash is present on the device. |
Final Grade: 6 It’s really not a bad app, but it doesn’t compete with other flashlight utilities on any level
