Reading the news is essential so you know what’s happening in the world around you, so you can better understand things. While this all sounds great, it’s not always easy to make sense of new topics when you barely have any background to build on.

Timeline is an app that wants to fix this to some extent by putting news in context. Basically, the app comes with a timeline, putting past and present into the same package, hoping that this will help you better understand what’s going on by providing historical context.

Easy to use

The app has a simple and clean interface that makes it easy for users to navigate all the content. You’ll notice there are news from all topics on the so-called main page. By tapping the button in the top left corner you can access all categories and expand on things. You can check out trending topics, quick reads, articles on politics, tech, business, sports and so on.

Once you pick a topic you want to read on, just tap on it and check out the info. It all starts with the picture and the headline; as you scroll down you’ll find a brief description of the article, a presentation that should get you hooked to the topic.

From there on, you decide what you want to do. For instance, you can continue scrolling and get a history lesson. Not only do the cards contain pictures and some text, but you’ll also notice immediate that there’s a year marked at the top, as well as the location where it all happened.

Alternatively, you can tap on the timeline button at in the lower right corner and check out the headlines there. You’ll be able to see things in chronological order and tap on any of them to read more.

While you won’t exactly be getting the full content of the day’s news, you will get popular topics treated in a manner that will help you better understand how we’ve reached a certain point in history.

The articles can be shared with friends over a number of ways, including Facebook, Twitter, email and SMS. They can also be bookmarked for later reading, although this particular step will require that you sign up for an account with the app. You can do this with the help of a social login feature or by inputing an email address.
