Relative Benchmark 2.45
Better looking than other benchmark apps
Unlike other benchmark tools, the graphics in Cirprian’s app are pretty slick, though we wouldn’t mind being able to remove the options on the screen to see only the landscape. Maybe it’s a hidden setting somewhere, maybe it’s an in-app purchase, we don’t know. What we do know is that it would provide a far better visual experience without the buttons constantly covering the background action.
You get custom shaders for 100+ distinct materials, terrain shader with blend maps, transparency sorting, Post Processing Effects (High Dynamic Range, Bloom, Depth of Field, real-time Shadow Mapping, GodRays, Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, AntiAliasing, Anisotropic Filtering), and the cool navigation mode that we mentioned earlier.
The "Explorer Mode" (available as an in-app purchase) enables Shadow Mapping, Screen Space Ambient Occlusion and removes the pesky ads.
The developer-centric GL Extensions feature details all the OpenGL ES 2 and OpenGL ES 3 extensions that the iOS device supports. You can set the resolution manually and get a real time reading of the difference in frames per second. Submitting scores and comparing them doesn’t necessarily require an account.
Premium users can also see real-time water reflections and refractions, while instanced tessellation is possible using an OpenGl ES 3 device.
Freedom comes at a cost
The freedom to test everything manually, and individually, without stopping the benchmark, is a real treat. But various restrictions hinder the experience. And you can expect it to crash if you set it to run a maximum resolution.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
Relative Benchmark looks pretty slick, but we’ve seen better. |
Function8
The freedom to test everything manually without stopping the benchmark is a real treat |
Security8
Submits device information for comparison, but nothing too personal (we hope). |
Battery4
Major battery drainer, as you’d expect. |
Price7
Has ads and multiple in-app purchases. |
Compatibility7
Requires only iOS 5.1.1 and is good to go with all devices that support that firmware, including iPads. Just don’t expect it to work too good on old-generation models. |
Navigation mode feels like flying. Um... actually, it IS flying.
