IKEA Emoticons 1.0

Texting has become one of the main pastimes for many of us and, more importantly, one of the main ways to communicate with our friends and family. Thankfully, iOS users have been able for the past few months to forgo the regular keyboard that they’ve come to love and hate and to embrace everything that alternative keyboards have to offer.

Developers have raced to launch such tools for iOS, hoping to attract new clients, especially since Android users are so accustomed to them already. One of the names no one expected to see on the list is IKEA, the Swedish furniture giant that has made a name for itself in all corners of the world.

Install the keyboard

IKEA Emoticons is a keyboard app that gets inspired for all the emoticons from various furniture or decorative pieces from the store.

The app installs just like any other keyboard. After the download is complete, you have to go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Keyboards and add a new one. Pick “Emoticons” from the list and then make sure to give it full access so you can use it at all times.

Then, the next time you’re texting someone, just press the globe button until you reach the IKEA app. Talking of which, it’s not just emoticons that it gives you access to, but also a regular keyboard where you can switch between letters, numbers and symbols with ease.

Then, there are several tabs you can choose from to discover more emoticons. Some are typical for IKEA, such as the store, the blue bags, the Swedish meatballs or the IKEA Family card. Then, there are other tabs containing emoticons that can have fun with, representing various storage containers and systems, something that IKEA is particularly famous for, textiles and other utensils, as well as various furniture setups.

So easy

One tap on any of the icons, and it will be copied to the clipboard. From there, you just have to paste it into the text message you’re sending. The emoticons will appear full sized and won’t actually feel like the regular ones you’re used to that are just about the size of the letters you’re typing. As you can see in the screenshots, they’re actually quite large.

All in all, this is a nice app from IKEA, even though it’s clearly a surprise since no one would expect IKEA to launch a keyboard app. Catalogues and shopping tools, sure, but keyboards? Not so much. Regardless, it’s here and it’s pretty cool so you should give it a shot if you’re into emoticons.
