GOM Remote 1.2.2
Going back and forth from your friends to the computer can get tiring pretty fast and annoying at the same time so wouldn’t be best if you could just control it all from your phone?
Meet GOM Remote
Well, GOM Remote is an app that allows you to wirelessly connect your iDevice to the PC to control the GOM Media Player, GOM Audio or PowerPoint. As long as you use one of these tools on your PC, you’ll be able to enjoy having a remote control and handling things from afar, without having to leave the couch or your place anywhere in the house since the apps connect over WiFi with a unique code.
You will need, however, to also have GOM Tray installed, which will help control the media players. This is the app that will give you the pairing key that you need to input in GOM Remote on your phone or tablet. Once the nine-digit code is typed in, you’ll also get a four-digit PIN code to add to your phone to confirm the connection.
That’s about all you have to do before gaining access to what you were actually looking for – a way to remotely control the app on your computer. The app’s interface is pretty straightforward and yet, despite its simplicity, it offers plenty of tools to get things done.
Most of the UI is occupied by a round controller including some navigation buttons for backwards and forward and volume controls. Beneath you’ll find the buttons allowing you to jump from song to song and to play and pause the tracks. It’s also possible to enable the repeat and the shuffle features straight from the app.
If you tell the app exactly which GOM app you’re using on your computer, you’ll even get access to the track’s name and a progress bar. It’s also possible to mute the app if you so desire.
Some bugs
The one area that managed to crash the iOS app was the Playlist button. Instead of collecting information from the PC app and displaying the tracks there, the app crashed completely and upon relaunching it I had to type in a new PIN code. This is most certainly a bug that the folks over at GOM can fix in future updates.
The Setup area allows you set a default program that you use most often and that you’d like to control over GOM Remote. This can be changed easily, so you won’t be stuck with the choice through all the times you use it.
The GOM Remote can even be set to control your computer’s power status. You can, for instance, shut it down, have it enter sleep mode, restart.
This is a pretty great app that you can definitely use on a frequent base. Even if GOM players aren’t exactly your go-to apps, you might consider having them installed permanently just so you can use the remote.
