Battery Life Saver - Max Your Battery Life FREE 1.2

Tracks your charge cycles, offers app usage analysis, and more
Not knowing the nuts and bolts of your device can have some terrible repercussions. For example, a developer trying to sell you a battery saving app will say anything to get you to buy their product, despite the fact that said app might actually help drain your battery, rather than save it.

It’s not fair to say “we’ll let you judge for yourself,” since our mission is to highlight the good and the bad in the iTunes App Store and give you an early heads up, before you take the plunge.

Streamlined UI

Battery Life Saver has very graphics, animations, and an overall well designed interface. But it also tries to impress a little too much - always a warning sign that you might be using a non-tool.

It’s packed with ads, including references to the developer’s other apps, and it has a pretty Memory Boost panel which spins a wheel and claims it has purged your system’s RAM of unnecessary bits.

The tabbed view at the bottom of the UI and the neatly crafted tutorial are enough to convince you that this developer knows what it’s doing. But dive deeper into the functions and you’ll soon learn a different reality.

A battery drainer, not a saver

Battery Live Saver is nothing but a pretty package for an app that basically reads system information and displays it broken down by apps and processes. It doesn’t actually include any tools that help reduce drainage. Rather, it offers tips on how to optimize your usage and extend your mileage.

Since the battery charge level isn’t accurate (sometimes off by as much as 7%), you obviously can’t trust its other estimates, such as how much your running apps are draining. It’s safe to say that Facebook and Location Services will always be at the top of that list, but that’s common knowledge these days.

The Memory Boost tool is either a blatant lie, or something that acts only temporarily. In any case, we haven’t noticed any improvement in battery life on our test devices after using this feature. Moreover, it tends to freeze the app altogether more often than not.

Worse still, Battery Life actually causes the phone to consume more power by using Location Services, for one reason or another. Kind of beats the purpose of the whole app. The memory purging tool freezes the software, forcing the user to relaunch the app and start using it over again, which forces the CPU to work double shifts. There are many other things in there that will simply keep you stuck in the app, when you should be putting the iPhone to sleep.

What it does good (but not necessarily 100% accurate) is display the processes that suck a lot of power. The rest, as they say, is history. You’re more than welcome to check out its other features for yourself, but our verdict should be clear by now.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7

It does well to impress with nice graphics and animations, while the overall design gives off a feeling of reliability. But it’s nothing more than a facade.

Function5

Point for point, the various features offered by this app will actually lead to more battery drainage.

Security5

The Location Services thing is actually a bit of a scare. The tool is supposed to save my battery, not talk to cell towers and WiFi access points to guess its place on the globe.

Battery1

The only battery-saving you’ll do with the help of Battery Life Saver is by reading its tips on how to tweak your settings to avoid drainage.

Price5

It’s free but at what cost? Drains your battery, flashes ads before your eyes, and it’s as much a battery saver as it is a money saver.

Compatibility7

Some areas of the app are choppy on iOS 7, and it’s even worse on iOS 6. Need we say how this takes its toll on the CPU (and the battery implicitly)?
