Science Today 1.2.10
Science Today is the California Academy of Sciences’ channel for current stories on cutting-edge technologies, life, Earth, space, sustainability and Academy Research. The app is packed with all sort of interesting stories and tools that you might need.
Sleek UI with plenty of tools at hand
It's always nice to see developers who take the time to create a tutorial for new users to get some guidance when launching a new application. Science Today doesn't come with that, but that doesn't mean that you would have trouble navigating inside the app.
It uses material design and it has a side menu, filled with quick access to all sort of features. The app doesn't require online registration, which is quite nice but it also doesn't have a settings menu which means that you won't be able to make any changes to its UI or settings.
Browse through all sort of articles
The top articles on the network are displayed on the home menu, simply scroll down to check out all of them. Tap on one to open, but the app's only options is to share the story with others on social networks.
It doesn't have a feature to enlarging font size, copying text, liking or saving articles for offline reading. Still, you'll get access to all the story inside the app, without having to open articles in your browser, like some news readers do.
Some flaws
The side menu is filled with all sort of categories that you can check out, including earth, life, space, sustainability, technology and more. You can view recent or trending articles, but it doesn't have the option of typing in text and searching for stories on certain topics.
The side menu on the right is filled with all sort of filter options, like articles or videos. The app doesn't have a settings menu, which means that users won't be able to adjust notifications inside the app or make any other changes. Still, it uses animation when scrolling through articles on the main menu.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
The interface is really nice, it doesn't have any stability issues and it comes with material design, but it lacks additional themes. |
Function7
It doesn't have a settings menu which is one of the most basic elements of any Android app, but it does provide access to a variety of nice stories. |
Security7
It doesn't need access to many areas of your phone, but some aren't connected to its features like accounts saved on your device. |
Battery6
Consumption is moderate, but you should keep an eye on resources as it may drain your battery especially if you like to watch videos. |
Price10
It doesn't come with any ads or in-app purchases, which is quite nice. |
Compatibility7
The app should work on devices running Android version 4.1 or later, making it inaccessible to some users. |
It's packed with all sort of nice and interesting articles, but it needs some more features.
