iTranslate 3.2

Translate text into various languages fast and easy
iTranslate is one of the most popular translator app for iPhone and developers from Sonico Mobile have now launched a version for Android OS devices. The app comes as an alternative to the widely-used Google Translate, but lacks some of the features that have made Google's app so popular.

Simplistic GUI that lacks customization features

The app's user-interface is intuitive, but that's only because it lacks features. If you need to translate short bits of text from one language to another, iTranslate works like a charm and provides suggestions to words you type in. Text can be translated into 50 languages, including Korean, Russian and Chinese.

Other than that, you have the option of reversing translations and even inputting text using your devices's microphone. The app can also speak out text. Icons for favorites, history and information about the app are displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Few tools for translations

The app comes with a few tools that you can use for translations. The favorites icon opens translations that you've 'stared' for a quick access and history provides a list of all your activity within the app.

Tap on one translation and you can set the app to speak the words, delete the entry, copy or just view text. But these tools are only available with internet connection.

Aside from this, there's not much more you can do with this app. iTranslate needs constant WiFi connection to work, it doesn't install dictionaries on the phone, nor does it save past translations. In addition, the app doesn't provide synonyms to words, so you're stuck with the results you get.

A big problem for all such apps – the accuracy of translations

One thing is for sure about translator apps, they're easier to use than regular dictionaries and provide fast translations to words and short text. However, the quality of translations isn't the best and this is one of the problems that Google Translate also has, while iTranslate doesn't shine neither.

Such apps are only useful for understanding text from other languages, as they lack accuracy and can't actually be used for academic or business purposes.
